Dear

Thank you for getting in touch with us regarding the paper cups at Optus Stadium.

The cups are here to stay for the foreseeable future, as the WA Government’s Plan for Plastics meant the Stadium must phase out all single use plastic, which we commenced in 2022.

We undertook focus groups to assist with the decision on which cup would be the replacement cup. The message from these groups was overwhelmingly in support of the environmental benefits and that people did not want to pay more for their cups, which would otherwise be incorporated into the cost of beverages.

When new materials come on the market, we will be happy to investigate but we are not aware of any viable alternatives at this stage. The team here are passionate about what they do and the beers we pour, there have been many hours of discussions around cups. We also consulted with our beer supplier, Gage Roads.

The cups can be fully recycled if placed in the correct yellow bins, and as they contain no plastic lining they are also compostable and purchased from a local WA supplier.

If you experience dissatisfaction with any of our beverages please see a member of staff at the time of purchase so they can rectify it for you, it can take a little longer for the beer to settle in these cups as opposed to in plastic.

We naturally don't want our beer sales to decline, so this will continue to be on the stadium radar to find improvements.

Thank you again for taking the time to provide your feedback, your e-mail has been forwarded to our Retail Food & Beverage team.
